Many of California’s state parks are closing, and it’s tragic. The First 70 is a forthcoming film whose producers want to change all of that. Just a mesmerizing trailer that brought tears to my eyes.

This week everyone’s focused on Carol Bartz’s departure as CEO of Yahoo!. I’d rather talk about Yahoo!’s efforts to shore up its share of the online display ad market. One thing I like is the knowledge series that the company’s put together that promotes Yahoo! ad products and solutions by providing education, chiefly in the form of videos and stories that contain a...

FCP X vs. 7: Some tips
Everyone has an opinion about whether FCP X is a step forward or backward from 7. For my money, X is awesome in many ways. But rather than rehash old arguments, I’ll offer some detailed, nitty-gritty points about my experience with the new platform. To start, let me say something about nesting stills in X to form a time lapse sequence.
The process of creating large time lapses — say,...

Tom Friedman’s recent column made me excited and even slightly uncomfortable, a sign that I need to take these words to heart and act on them. Click the link to read it. Also, I can’t wait to check out Reid Hoffman’s book.

New video I shot and edited of a 2-day trip to the Yosemite Valley. Filmed on my 7D, as usual. Experimented with some time lapses and also color correcting a few seconds of opening footage to look like old film. I used Magic Bullet Looks for that.

Here’s a new short I made for my friend who’s starting a line of women’s hair accessories made from vintage men’s bow ties. I love telling stories about people doing interesting and creative things. Shot this on a Canon 7D with an EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM, edited with Final Cut and Photoshop. Graded with Magic Bullet Looks.

A new video I shot on my 7D, this of a “Mad Men party” I went to in San Francisco last week. I’m still cutting long, as my friend would say, because I just love carrying a video all the way through until a song ends. In this piece I tried to focus on my transitions and cutting to the music.
